Fans Allowed at Coors Field

Coors Field return

The Colorado Rockies made a major announcement this week, and it is big news for fans of the Major League Baseball team.

According to the team, they have been approved to allow up to 12,500 fans at Coors Field to begin the 2021 MLB season.

Major League Baseball is allowing each team to announce its own attendance policy for the 2021 season, and the Rockies were one of the first to make an official announcement. This was a coordinated effort, and the team was eventually given official approval by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

By allowing 12,500 fans into the stadium for home games, that would be 25% of the normal capacity allowed at Coors Field. There is a chance for this number to increase as the season moves along, but this is a great place to start.

Now the team will get to work in creating a new attendance policy that will likely require COVID-19 screening before the game, and fans will be required to wear masks. Even though the Rockies play in an outdoor stadium, the risk of spreading COVID-19 is the biggest concern amongst the team and the health department.

The Denver Broncos were allowed to have a limited number of fans in attendance for their games in 2020, but that didn’t last. After a spike in cases in the Denver area and throughout the state, all of the Broncos games were played in front of an empty stadium.

The Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche have been playing without fans this season, and they were unaware that allowing fans was a possibility.

Could Be Long Season For Rockies

The Colorado Rockies front office has not made any official announcements regarding the current state of the franchise, but it has been made clear by the team’s actions. After trading Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals for a package of prospects, the rebuild has officially begun in Colorado.

Trevor Story is now the face of the Rockies organization, and the team is looking to pursue a contract extension with the shortstop. It is expected that a deal will eventually get done, but Story will need some serious help if the Rockies are going to make a return to the playoffs.

The National League West is considered to be a two-team race this season, and the Rockies are not included. In fact, the Rockies are expected to be the worst team in the NL West this season, at least according to the odds from FanDuel Sportsbook.

According to FanDuel, the Rockies are +9000 to win the NL West. The Los Angeles Dodgers are -300 to win the NL West Division, and the San Diego Padres are listed at +200.

FanDuel has also set the over/under for Colorado Rockies wins during the 2021 season at just 65. It could be a long season for the Rockies, but the organization hopes that it leads to future success with a new core of players.
