Colorado State Primed For NCAA Tournament
The state of Colorado is not known to be a powerhouse when it comes to college basketball, but things have been a bit different this season.
Both the University of Colorado and Colorado State University have had surprising seasons, and both teams could be in the NCAA Tournament field when it is announced next Sunday.
Selection Sunday is set for March 14, and it could be a big day for the two biggest universities in the state. Playing in the NCAA Tournament is always the goal for every college basketball team, and that dream could become a reality for the Buffaloes and the Rams.
Colorado appears to be a lock for the NCAA Tournament, while Colorado State still has some work to do. These teams could potentially meet up at some point in the NCAA Tournament, depending on how the brackets shake out.
The entire 2021 NCAA Tournament will be played in Indianapolis and the surrounding area due to the ongoing pandemic. Teams will report to the area as soon as the selection show has ended and will remain there throughout the tournament. Betting on March Madness is expected to be huge this year. Colorado Looking to Win Pac-12 Tournament
The Buffaloes will be in the NCAA Tournament field when it is announced on Sunday, but where they will be seeded is to be determined. Colorado has looked like a top four seed at times in 2020-21, but it could fall with a late-season slide.
Currently, the Buffaloes are projected to be a number five seed, which would put them up against a number 12 seed in the first round. This is a dangerous position to be in, as this is usually the area of the bracket that sees the most upsets.
If Colorado wants to improve its NCAA Tournament seed, then winning the Pac-12 Conference Tournament would be one way to do it. Colorado sits in third place in the Pac-12 Conference and will be one of the betting favorites to win the title next week.
Rams Squarely on the Bubble
The Rams are squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble, and that’s not a fun place to be. Colorado State has been in and out of the projected field for the past few weeks, and it could make it a moot point by winning the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
Colorado State is likely to be the number two seed in the MWC Tournament behind the San Diego State Aztecs. The Rams have lost just four conference games this season, but the top of the conference is loaded with terrific teams.
Utah State and Boise State are two other teams from the Mountain West Conference looking for at-large bids, and that could make this conference tournament extremely important. The Rams have just five losses on the season, but they lack a true signature win.
ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently has the Rams as one of the last four teams in the field, which would require Colorado State to play in one of the First Four games next Thursday.
