Buffaloes Blast Georgetown for NCAA Tournament Win

The Colorado Buffaloes were given a number five seed in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and were assigned to the East Region.
All of the games are taking place in Indianapolis and surrounding areas, and the Buffaloes are hoping for a long stay in the Hoosier State.
Colorado was scheduled to take on the Georgetown Hoyas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and the Buffaloes wasted little time in taking control of the game on Saturday. Colorado put together a flawless performance en route to a 96-73 victory.
With the win, Colorado advances to the second round to take on the Florida State Seminoles. That game will be played on Monday, with a location and time to be determined.
Florida State suffered a loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC Championship Game, but the Seminoles defeated UNC Greensboro in the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles spent a portion of the regular season ranked in the top 10, and the Buffaloes are expected to be an underdog in the second round.
In the NCAA Tournament opener, Colorado jumped out to a 47-23 halftime lead and were never really challenged after halftime. Five different players scored at least nine points against Georgetown, and the Buffaloes shot better than 60 percent from the field.
Jabari Walker came off the bench to lead Colorado with 24 points in the win, including shooting 5-for-5 from the three-point line. Colorado went 16-of-25 from deep in the win, and it will need another hot-shooting game against Florida State.
Colorado did allow 50 second-half points to Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, but the outcome of the game was already decided at that point. The Buffaloes could potentially face off against the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Sweet 16 with a win over Florida State.
This was the first NCAA Tournament win for Colorado since the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
Colorado State Alive in NIT
The Colorado State Rams were NCAA Tournament hopefuls this season but were on the wrong side of the bubble when the tournament field was announced. That put Colorado State in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), and they were awarded a number one seed.
The entire 2021 NIT is being played in the Dallas-Fort Worth area instead of around the country. The tournament field has also been trimmed from 32 teams to just 16 for this season only.
Colorado State opened up play in the NIT by taking on the Buffalo Bulls from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Buffalo was another team that fell just short of the NCAA Tournament, setting up a great matchup.
The Rams were able to come away with a 75-73 win in a game that featured several ties and lead changes. Colorado State outscored Buffalo 42-39 in the second half to come up with the thrilling victory.
Guard David Roddy led the way for Colorado State in the win, and the Rams had four starters in double figures. Colorado State shot just 44 percent from the field, but it was just enough to earn the win.
Colorado State will now take on the NC State Wolfpack in the quarterfinals.
